Sleeping in Complete Comfort
The Luco Hybrid OSA Appliance holds numerous international patents for design innovations. It is also the only registered treatment of sleep bruxism, a painful sleep disorder that often accompanies sleep apnea and only the second to be FDA cleared for the treatment of tension/migraine headaches.
The Luco Hybrid OSA Appliance was designed after extensive clinical testing over ten years and 7 prototypes. Thousands of appliances have been fitted and all were assessed in an overnight sleep study, both before and after treatment. It may be used to treat sleep apnea on patients over the age of 18 who have healthy teeth and gums that have undergone an overnight sleep study and were diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea or primary snoring. Generally, if you can wear a partial denture or retainer, then you can wear this appliance. The design incorporates experience gained in over 29 years and more than 4000 TMD, orthodontic and OSA appliances. In Canada, the European Union and Australia, the appliance is government registered for the treatment of sleep-related bruxism, in addition to sleep apnea and primary snoring. If you suffer only from sleep-related bruxism, your dentist can diagnose and treat this condition without an overnight sleep study, after reviewing your history and examine your teeth for signs.
The main framework of the appliance is Chrome Cobalt, like a partial denture, and can last many years. The acrylic is Methyl Methacrylate, an FDA-approved acrylic used extensively in orthodontic appliances, splints, dentures and retainers ( as well as in medical procedures as an adhesive and bone replacement). Both of these materials are very hypoallergenic and can be safely used for most people. However, if you have an allergy to methyl methacrylate, chrome, or cobalt, you should consider a different form of treatment.

Lower Appliance
If you are a gagger, you can use this appliance as there is no acrylic on the inside of the upper or lower appliance, nor in the front of the appliance. The metal bar on the palate does not touch it, and the appliance can be designed to go far forward on the palate far from the “gag zone”. If you are susceptible to gagging, please discuss this with your dentist and he/she can custom design the upper framework to reduce and in most cases, eliminate any gagging. The open front design allows for mouth breathing for allergy sufferers, people with deviated septums, large turbinates or other causes of difficulty in nose breathing.
There is no material in the front making this very comfortable for patients who breath through their mouths.
On average the appliance can last 2+3 years with proper care.
The acrylic is very durable and is very resistant to breakage. This is the only appliance available that can be used for the treatment of sleep related bruxism and has been approved for use in treating sleep related bruxism in over 55 countries. The Luco Hybrid OSA was originally designed for treating advanced TMD cases. It was a sleep specialist that originally discovered the advanced benefits of the appliance in treating sleep apnea and upper airway resistance syndrome. The rest is history!
